On Not Doing Homework...

Before his eyes, a guilt embodied lies.
Hunched over, I believe, face down - thereby
Averting eyes until the clock runs out -
No lie's expelled, so long as no one knows.

Hunched over, I believe, face down - thereby
Receiving no direction, time, or blame -
No lie's expelled, so long as no one knows
I mock the conversation knowing naught.

Receiving no direction, time, or blame,
Ten-thirty comes, ten-thirty-three, and still,
I mock the conversation knowing naught.
I write! Distract! Pull papers close, duck low.

Ten-forty comes, ten-forty-three, and still
My nose is down, better, sure, than being brown.
I write! Distract! Pull papers close, duck low.
I sneak and tip-toe underneath his gaze.

My nose is down, better, sure, than being brown;
Before his eyes, a guilt embodied lies.
I sneak and tip-toe underneath his gaze,
Averting eyes until the clock runs out.
